We adopted Lucy at 7.5 years old not quite 2 years ago. When we got her it was recommended that she be the only dog & it didn’t take long to see why. She was very reactive around other dogs & I was originally concerned that she was dog aggressive! Never having owned a dog with that issue before I went in search of help. Knowing how she was around other dogs, taking a traditional training class was out of the question. That’s where Nikki came in! She agreed to do private lessons for Lucy & I. She came to my home & showed us the proper way to go on a walk and meet people both out on a walk & at the door (another issue Lucy had). It didn’t take long until I felt much more confident & relaxed out on our walks & with people coming to our home. Nikki gave me the tools to practice to ensure our success. Our final hurdle to get over was Lucy with other dogs. I felt under the gun to learn how to deal with this as my son was due to come for a visit with his new Rottie pup & I didn’t want anything to happen to her! For our last lesson Nikki brought her dog River for a supervised meeting with Lucy. She took the time to allow Lucy to see River was no threat to her & we even walked the girls together, something I never thought could be done! I always thought she was aggressive but after observing how Lucy behaved around River, Nikki told me my dog was nervous. River even laid down on my living room floor not two feet away from Lucy & she was fine, something an aggressive dog would never allow! She gave me great suggestions on how to make their first meeting successful so instead of being nervous about it, I actually was looking forward to it! Fast forward to one year down the road, and through some life changes we find ourselves with both girls. I took this picture just the other night. Before Lucy & I met Nikki I would have never thought my girl could relax enough to be this close with another dog! There’s an 8 year age gap between them & to watch them together, most of the time you’d never know it! I will always be grateful to Nikki for helping me to be a better, more relaxed owner. It has made all the difference in the quality of my Lucy’s life!
